Bourlinguez #136 – Manon x Syrie
Podcast: Bourlinguez – Podcast Voyage
Original title: Bourlinguez #136 – Manon x Syrie
Language : French
Date : 17-09-2025
In this 136th episode, Manon talks about Syria.
She entered the country shortly after the fall of the Assad regime. What she found was a nation still deeply marked by war : destroyed cities, displaced families, people grieving or living in extremely harsh conditions, and a society struggling to rebuild itself.
In this episode, Manon shares what she saw and felt: the efforts of reconstruction, the cautious return of daily life, and the constant balance between hope and fear. She also speaks about the people she met : men, women and children, trying to move forward while carrying the weight of the past, some of the most remarkable individuals she’s ever encountered, despite having every reason in the world to be bitter.
Together, we explore what rebuilding means in such a context, how collective memory shapes the future, and where to find humanity in a country still living with the consequences of its history.

In this episode of #HistoriasQueMolestan (Ep. 117), I chat with Angie d’Erico about my journey as a solo traveler in the Middle East, especially Syria and Lebanon.
We dive deep into the injustices surrounding the negative media portrayal of the region, contrasting it with the incredible hospitality and kindness of its people, who despite being among the most welcoming in the world, often receive the worst treatment from the rest of it.
Lebanon was my gateway to the Middle East, the first place where I encountered such warm and generous people, despite the 2021 economic collapse, with its fuel shortages, blackouts, and skyrocketing inflation.
Syria marked the final chapter of this journey in the region, and I was fortunate to travel through the country shortly after the weakening of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, witnessing the reality from an outsider’s perspective while once again meeting extraordinary people.
This episode is a deep reflection on privilege, resilience, and human connection.
